A new VR service launches today and promises the full girlfriend experience

Knowing the Internet, I'm surprised it took this long.

If you haven’t tried a virtual reality gadget up to now, you really should — it’s awesome. Still unsold? Well, there’s a new VR service launching today which might give you the extra incentive you need. It’s called AliceX.

AliceX is a new website that aims to provide the perfect “virtual girlfriend experience” to anyone with a connection and a VR headset. So basically it’s a round-the-clock cam site staffed with models that act as girlfriends for each patron who signs on.

What a time to be alive.

The screenshots and conceptual images available look similar to a basic cam site, but have a much more intimate feel than simply staring at your screen. Most likely the models are available for actual companionship, despite the official implication that the service has a more sexual role in mind.

One issue I have with it, judging from the shots provided by AliceX’s PR team (the one above,) is that the 3D backgrounds seem really bad. They’re poor quality and they don’t even go well with the setting, the model or, well, the thing you’re there for. In a VR, the environment matters hugely. So it could’ve been better if they opted to let the users interact with the models in their own environment or the model’s environment or wherever — just not a poorly rendered room. It’s never too late to change that, though, so we might see it implemented in the future.

Apart from this, AliceX seems like an interesting mixture of real-time pornography and human interaction. I’m curious to see how users will react to it. Being a “girlfriend,” not a porn, service, there is a pretty important emotional element involved — one has to contemplate the implications of spending too much time with the girls and losing sight of the line between real love and business.

New users signing up right now have a chance to win a “starter bundle” including a Zeiss VR One headset and 30 free minutes with a model of their choice. Additional winners will be drawn once a week going forward.

Oculus Rift support is going to be implemented in the future, just as iOS support — AliceX states that “iOS technology” hasn’t yet been “updated” to support the service. Right now you’ll need to use a smartphone with Android 5.0 or higher.
